New float system for transient boaters and paddlers for South Portland, Maine


This new float system is designed to give water access for transient boaters, kayakers, paddlers, motor/sail boat day trippers, cruisers or those just wanting to get near the water, access to Portland Harbor, Casco Bay and beyond. For those traveling through or near Portland Harbor, this new facility allows for berthing so Knightville and other
parts of South Portland can be accessed by water.

This new public access facility features:

1. 10 - 8'x 20' heavy duty southern yellow pine timber main floats designed for berthing and water access.
2. 1- 12' x 20'floating ramp that attaches to an 12' x 20' low water kayak/rowing appendage.
3. A 4'4" x 44' ADA all welded marine aluminum gangway.

All floats are constructed with the following materials:
1.0pcf CCA SYP;
4x8 timber frame, 2.5 pcf CCA SYP 4x8 skid system and .60 pcf ACQ SYP;
2x6 decking.

The floatation is HD polyethylene Premierfloat drums model
#4896/20" and all hardware is HD hot dipped galv. 1/4" plate interior construction joints and 3/8" plate for all float to float connection hardware. The connecting pin is 1". The low water float uses a 20"x96"x10" HD Premierfloat drum. All frame lumber for the low water float is 2.5 pcf CCA SYP 2x12 and 2x10. The decking is the same as the 8'x20' floats.
